Good morning, Malargüe! We woke up in a beautiful, warm bachelor apartment in this charming town along Route 40. Last night, Emi made the executive decision to leave the higher altitudes and head to Malargüe, as my brain was non-functional after a day of altitude sickness and having no food in my system. This morning, I’m ready to go!

In all honesty, my first thought was to catch up on any exercise I missed, but I know that’s not the best idea after two days of very minimal food. So, I’ll do a little flow and let the day take us on our next adventure.

Every morning, we eat a good breakfast: protein, fat, carbs, and veggies/fruit. Our go-to is eggs, toast (preferably whole wheat or sourdough), avocado, tomato, and cucumber. It keeps us full for a few hours, and it’s delicious. They always say, “breakfast is the most important meal of the day,” and they’re not wrong. But “breakfast” doesn’t have to be as soon as you wake up. If you don’t have much of an appetite right away, who cares? Listen to your body. Have a little bit, like some fruit and nuts, do some movement or work, then plan to eat something substantial.

One recommendation I will highlight is that if you are consuming caffeine, especially as a woman, eat something with it, preferably with protein to balance your hormones. Usually, I’ll have a banana sprinkled with flax and chia seeds with cinnamon to balance the glucose (sugar). Then, boom, I’m good to do some movement and eat a good meal after. But everyone’s different. Try some things out and reflect on how they make you feel. I also take some kind of greens/vitamins in the morning if I’ve been back and forth between time zones or in an area where fresh fruits and veggies aren’t consistent, like cruise ships. This changes because I believe in diversity in every aspect of life, and food isn’t an exception. Being consistent in eating healthy is important, but when boredom sets in with what we’re eating, we’ve got to take another look. If you are eating a well-balanced, “close to the ground” or whole food range of food, you’re winning.

Today’s plan is to see what kind of excursion we can find. Our hope is to check out the famous “Volcano Malacara,” named for its resemblance to a horse’s face. It looks quite beautiful, but I’m actually more interested in seeing “Caverna de las Brujas,” which translates to “Witches’ Cave.” It’s a massive cave with multiple tales associated with it. Some say that the cave was a host to celebrations of Argentinian Aboriginals, during which the shadows projected on the walls resembled witches. Others say that two women had fled from enslavement after the removal of the souls of their feet and were living in the cave. wild.

Before our day we’re having our go to brunch: eggs, toast, tomato, avocado and sometimes cilantro and Emi’s homemade mayo if we have it. Emi and I have this almost everyday. It keeps us satiated for hours with protein, fiber, healthy fats and it’s just so delicious. It’s also something we make together, which is one of my favorite things, spending time making good food and appreciating each other and these beautiful experiences.

The essentials

Recovering and recharging on the road?

This is my go-to recipe for a nutritious, energy-packed snack that keeps us feeling full and fueled during our travels. I love making a big batch to store in the cooler, ensuring we have a healthy, ready-to-eat snack for the next few days. These snacks contain caffeine, so if you’re avoiding it or have little ones, feel free to leave it out!
